What is the Board of Trustees & what are they responsible for? The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees are publicly elected decision-makers for the school district. They are responsible for providing oversight to the Superintendent and establishing District-wide policy. Trustees are accountable to work with their communities to improve student achievement.

How often does the Board of Trustees meet? Trustees meet twice per month (second and fourth Tuesdays) at 2 pm both virtually and at the Central Administration Building Board Room, 425 E. 9th St., Reno, NV 89512.

Can community members engage at Trustee meetings? Decision-making bodies benefit greatly from hearing public input and multiple perspectives. Currently, members of the public can submit comments on agenda and non-agenda items through email or voice recording. Public comment can be provided in person or via email. Email comments should be submitted to publiccomments@washoeschools.net.

Trustees Approved the Consent Agenda
Consent agenda highlights include:

Trustees Discussed the Partnership Between the District and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Assistance League Reno-Sparks, and Education Alliance of Washoe County
Trustees heard from several partnership programs between the District. First, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, which provides nonperishable food at several school sites; community food pantries at all Family Resource Centers; mobile harvest distribution at Family Resource Centers; SNAP application assistance; Summer Kids Cafe; and Back-Pack Kids Program.
Assistance League Reno-Sparks provides assistance to children through the Operation School Bell and Links to Learning programs, as well as Children in Transition support, scholarships, and the Read to ME program.
Education Alliance of Washoe County has served students through the Caring for Classrooms, Partners in Education, Principal for a Day, Teachers’ Warehouse, and Redfield Community Outreach programs.

Trustees Approved the Award of Request for Proposal (RFP) for Consulting Services for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software Procurement and Implementation Services
Staff presented a plan for updating the District’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, as the legacy system is outdated and will save in costs for hardware, as well as increase accessibility and efficiency. Six proposals were received as a response to the RFP, and following that, the staff invited responding firms to demo their services. In July, Applications Software Technology (AST) was issued a Letter of Intent to Award.
The new system cost timeline is phased, with the first phase from January 2025 – March 2026 to include financial systems; Phase 2 from March 2025 – October 2026 to include budgeting; Phase 3 from February 2025 – March 2026 to include HR and payroll; and Phase 3a through go-live on March 31, 2026.
System costs have been budgeted, including implementation and a 10-year subscription cost for Oracle. Costs from AST are $11,209,491, and subscription costs are approximately $1.1M annually.
Trustees approved the award of FRP for consulting services for ERP software procurement and implementation services to AST, beginning January 2025, in the amount specified above. Trustees also approved the affiliated agreement with Oracle for a term of 10 years, approved the creation of a term-limited ERP Project Manager position to lead the District’s ERP project team for an estimated cost of $142,384; and approved Amendment $1 to the agreement with Avero Advisors for ERP consulting services in the amount of $46,622.52.

Trustees approved the award of Bid #25-15-B-09-DA, the Getto Transportation Center modernization project, to Martin Harris Construction LLC in the amount of $33,058,050.

Trustees Approved Updates to the “Phone Away and Learn Today” Action Plan Proposal for Managing Personal Electronic Devices in Schools and Classrooms in the WCSD
Trustees approved the “Phone Away and Learn Today” cell phone plan for all District schools during the second semester of the 2024-25 school year. The pilot includes storage of devices away from students during classroom instruction, but includes considerations for special circumstances and emergency procedures. Based on pilot results, District staff will make adjustments and scale the pilot for full implementation in the 2025-2026 school year.
