What is the Board of Trustees & what are they responsible for? The CCSD Trustees are publicly elected decision-makers for the school district. They are responsible for providing oversight to the Superintendent and establishing District-wide policy. Trustees are accountable to work with their communities to improve student achievement.

How often does the Board of Trustees meet? Trustees meet twice per month (second and fourth Thursdays) at 5 pm both virtually and at the Edward A. Greer Education Center Board Room (2832 E Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89121).

Can community members engage at Trustee meetings? Decision-making bodies benefit greatly from hearing public input and multiple perspectives. Currently, members of the public can submit comments on agenda and non-agenda items through email or voice recording. Public comment can be provided in person, via email, or via voice recording. Email comments should be submitted to Boardmtgcomments@nv.ccsd.net. To submit a voice recording on items listed on the meeting agenda, call 702-799-1166. Voice recorded public comment is limited to 1 minute 30 seconds.

Trustees Approved the Consent Agenda (6-0)

Trustees Accepted a Focus: 2024 Strategic Plan Update on Student Discipline (6-0)
Trustees received an update on student discipline from the 2022-23 school year. There were 29,791 suspensions during the 2022-23 school year, an increase from 27,160 from the 2021-22 school year. The District did not meet its targets at the elementary, middle, and high school levels for suspensions, or any of its targets for student populations.
Discretionary expulsions also increased from the 2021-22 school year. For the 2022-23 school year, there were 1,434 discretionary expulsions (1,127 in the 2021-22 school year). The District did not meet its targets at the elementary, middle, and high school levels for discretionary expulsions.
Next steps include ongoing student town halls and continuing to implement Multi-Tiered System of Supports.

Trustees Approved a Notice of Intent to Amend Regulation 5111 – Age of Entrance and Enrollment Requirements (6-0)
Trustees discussed a Notice of Intent to amend Policy 5111 on age of entrance and enrollment requirements. Changes include age requirements shifting from the first day of the school year to August 1 of that school year. It also adds to the policy the stipulation that if a child has not completed kindergarten, the school must administer a District-adopted universal screener to ensure the student is prepared developmentally for first grade.
The changes will be considered at a future CCSD Board meeting on Thursday, October 12, at 5:00 p.m.

Trustees Approved a Reappointment to the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Board (7-0)
Trustees approved the reappointment of Deanna Riddle to the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association Board, for a term beginning September 15, 2023 and ending June 30, 2026.

Trustees Approved the Recommendations for Appointments to the Sex Education Advisory Committee (6-1)
Trustees approved the Sex Education Advisory Committee Recommending Committee’s appointments to the Committee. Appointees are:
- Medicine/Nursing Appointment: Amanda Knowles (District C)
- Counseling Appointment: Christopher Brace (District G)
- Teacher: Dennis Lawrence (District G)
- Parents: Zachariah Brown (District B), Jacqueline Davania-Williamson (District A), Elizabeth Ornelas (District C), and Erica Reynolds (District E)
These terms begin September 15, 2023 and end June 30, 2026.
